Description

TILLER LOCK is an infinitely variable rudder locking device that requires little space, is ready for instant action and suitable for virtually any tiller controlled boat. Lock the tiller by a short pull upwards. To regain control of the steering, the tiller must simply be lowered and the rudder can be moved once more. Steering tension can also be adjusted by raising the tiller until the desired friction-resistance is reached. Supplied with line, cleat, fairleads, block and screws.

Contents

  • 1x 6 mm rope (length: 3 m)
  • 1x block made of plastic
  • 1x cleat made of aluminium
  • 2x white plastic fairleads
  • 1x black plastic fairlead
  • 2x brass wood screws (30 mm)
  • 2x brass wood screws (45 mm)
  • 6x stainless steel screws(26 mm)

Installation instructions

  1. Tighten the bolt between the tiller and rudder to make it a little sluggish to move the tiller vertically. The tiller should retain its position when you let go.
  2. The block is best installed on the underside of the tiller, approx. 50-60 cm from the bolt. Use the wood screws (45 mm) and a 3.5 mm drill.
  3. The black fairlead is mounted approx. 10 cm from the block. Use the wood screws (30 mm) and a 2.5 mm drill.
  4. The white faileads are mounted on the coaming when the tiller is held in the normal position. The distance between the two fairleads should be approx. 85 cm. Use the stainless steel screws and a 2.5 mm drill.
  5. The cleat is mounted approx. 10 cm from of the fairleads. Use the stainless steel screws and a 2.5 mm drill.
  6. Tie the rope to one of the white fairleads that is not next to the cleat. Thread the rope through the black fairlead, then wind it around the block one and a half times, then back through the black fairlead and then through the other white fairlead, where it is finally secured with the cleat.
  7. Adjust the rope so that the tiller lock causes no friction when steering with the tiller in normal position but still without letting the rope become too slack.
